Amazing "Bits of Romanian Beats"
The next recital at the Enescu Soirees Online revolves around a show-stopping program offered by PERCUSSIONescu’s Irina Rădulescu (marimba) and Răzvan Florescu (vibraphone), a truly unique duo in the Romanian classical landscape due to its choice of instruments and repertoire. Their signature project, suggestively entitled “Bits of Romanian Beats”, aims at promoting seldom performed percussion compositions by contemporary musicians to Romanian and international music lovers.

"We would be very happy to share and talk about new Romanian music for percussion, especially since these works have been composed precisely to fill in a gap in this specific repertoire. Behind the four works included in the program there are some concept stories, very well suggested by the composers, which have a spectacular impact on the audience. It is, therefore, a new direction, with a special language located on the border between contemporary, classical and modern, and with various other influences such as jazz, minimalism or film music that attracted wide audiences towards new music." - Duo PERCUSSIONescu
Irina and Răzvan's collaboration started as a coincidence, but endured due to the fact that they sound great together. The vibraphone and marimba are two of the most spectacular percussion instruments, and as proficient players, the two musicians seek to become better known. They mainly play “young” pieces, partly because the repertoire for such a duo only started to appear in the 20th Century, with many pieces written by the players themselves. They also work with Romanian composers, friends they can talk to, because it is very important for composers to first understand exactly how the instruments work, and only then to write music for them. The works they play are both well composed and well understood by the performers. Irina Rădulescu and Răzvan Florescu are students at the National Music University in Bucharest.
