Petru Popescu on Hollywood Inside Out / Leon Feraru Conferences Online

On June 10, 2020 the RCINY director had as guest in the Feraru Conferences Online series bestselling author, screenwriter and filmmaker PETRU POPESCU, one of the best-known Romanian names on the American and international literary scene. The famous writer, also a Hollywood insider who worked with A-lister directors and actors, reflected on the alchemy of success in literature and commercial cinema, on mastering the art&craft of creating stories with mass appeal as well as on the secret of making it big in Bucharest and Tinseltown.




PETRU POPESCU was one of Romania's superstar writers of the young generation when he defected to the UK and then to the United States at the beginning of the 1970s. He studied English Language and Literature at the University of Bucharest, completed his education in Austria on a Herder Scholarship and, after moving to the U.S., graduated in Directing from the American Film Institute. He is the author of the international bestsellers Amazon Beaming/ The Encounter (made into a highly successful stage production by Simon McBurney) and Almost Adam (with more than 1,000,000 copies sold worldwide), and the critically acclaimed memoirs The Return and The Oasis. He directed Death of an Angel and Nobody’s Children (together with his wife, Iris Friedman). Several of his screenplays, as well as some of his books, were made into films.
