The Theater of a Restless Time

Cristina Modreanu, the influential theater critic, cultural historian, and festival curator, embarks on a month-long U.S. conference tour to promote her ground-breaking "A History of Romanian Theatre from Communism to Capitalism. Children of a Restless Time", recently published by Routledge. The book, which chronicles the extraordinary transformation of Romanian theater in the past 30 years, is first presented in New York, at Pace University, on March 5. The series of conferences, organized with the support of RCI New York, will also take the original author to University of Washington in Seattle (March 11), University of California, Irvine (March 13, 1 PM), Arizona State University (March 16, March 16, 11 AM, ECG G236), Ithaca College (April 9), and Harvard University (April 14). 

Cristina Modreanu is a theater critic, festival curator, and cultural historian. A Ph.D. of Romania’s University of Theater and Film, she has published extensively at home and abroad, including five books on Romanian theater and numerous articles, reviews, and studies. Cristina Modreanu is the co-founder and chief editor of the influential Scena.ro (The Stage) since 2008 and teaches theater studies at the University of Bucharest. With support from the Fulbright Program, she was Visiting Scholar at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts between 2011 and 2012. Cristina Modreanu has curated some of the biggest Romanian theater festivals: The European Festival of Performative Arts (2011-2013), National Theater Festival (2008-2010), National Festival of Dramaturgy (2006-2008), and was a programmer at the Festival of the Romanian Comedy (2005-2006).
