About The Event

Our exploration of Romania’s history through vestiges and objects of outstanding symbolism and beauty brings forth an artifact which came to be known as the "Queen of Inscriptions". Immerse yourself in the fascinating world of the Roman Dacia of the 2nd century AD and meet one of its most respected leaders, general and governor Marcus Claudius Fronto, whose statue once adorned the public space of Colonia Sarmizegetusa.

Text and video presentation by archaeologist Călin Timoc. Film concept by Ana Tudor and Adrian Tudor. A series developed in partnership with The National Museum of Banat in Timișoara and Timiș County Council.

Watch and read on our FACEBOOK, YOUTUBE and WEBSITE from Monday, March 1, 2 p.m. EST (or anytime later).

Călin Timoc has been an archaeologist with the National Museum of Banat since 2015. He previously taught Universal Ancient History, Latin Epigraphy, History of Religions and Classical Archaeology in the Department of History of the University of the West in Timișoara. In 2017 he got his Ph.D. in Roman Military Archaeology with a thesis entitled Soldiers' Barracks in the Auxiliary Camps of Roman Dacia, and subsequently published several studies on the same topic. His research was one of the first to have introduced hitherto unknown epigraphic pieces and archival documents from the 18-19th centuries in the scientific debate. Since 2020, Cătălin Timoc has been a member of the LIMES-Romania National Commission and currently he is in charge with the monitorization of the Roman camps in Caraş-Severin and Mehedinți counties.
