About The Event
The next milestone in our historical odyssey is the democratic revolution of 1989 and its powerful token, the tricolor flag with a hole in the middle, which illustrates the tragic, radical departure from the abyss of the communist dictatorship and the reinvention of Romania as a democratic member of the European Union and a close ally to the United States.
Video presentation and text by historian MARIUS TRIFU, curator at the National History Museum of Romania.
Watch and read on our FACEBOOK, YOUTUBE and WEBSITE from Monday, July 13, 2 p.m. EDT (or anytime later).
Our online series THE HISTORY OF ROMANIA IN ONE OBJECT, developed in partnership with the The National History Museum of Romania, evokes decisive epochs in Romanian past starting from an artifact or vestige with powerful symbolic, representative value. In the following weeks the history of Romania will be revealed object by object, from prehistoric figurines and ancient jewelry to Medieval battle flags, modern symbols of power and makeshift machines for printing anti-communist manifestos.
