About The Event

The first season of the HISTORY OF ROMANIA IN ONE OBJECT series concludes with the epoch-making event of Romania's integration into the European Union, the most consequential, transformative political arrangement our country has ever been part of. The symbolical object that illustrates this crucial historical turn, which has impacted all facets of Romanian life, is the "Romania and Bulgaria Together in the EU" stamp issue, now part of the National History Museum of Romania collection.

Text and video presentation by historian CRISTINA BARBU.

Watch and read on our FACEBOOK, YOUTUBE and WEBSITE from Monday, July 20, 2 p.m. EDT (or anytime later).

CRISTINA BARBU is a curator at the Philatelic Section of the National History Museum of Romania. She is a graduate of the Faculty of History, University of Bucharest and is currently studying for her doctorate. Cristina Barbu is specialized in contemporary history. She was co-curator of important exhibitions such as "The Art of Trenches", "A Giant Leap to the Moon", "Romania in the Great War". She is a constant presence at national and international scientific conferences.

Our online series THE HISTORY OF ROMANIA IN ONE OBJECT, developed in partnership with the The National History Museum of Romania, evokes decisive epochs in Romanian past starting from an artifact or vestige with powerful symbolic, representative value. In the following weeks the history of Romania will be revealed object by object, from prehistoric figurines and ancient jewelry to Medieval battle flags, modern symbols of power and makeshift machines for printing anti-communist manifestos.
