About The Event

We are proud to present, after a long time in the making, the biggest New York showcase of Romanian art in recent memory. Entitled ANOTHER EAST to suggest an alternative, unprejudiced access to contemporary visual practices in Romania, the exhibition features works by eleven artists, all of them professors in the Painting Department of the National University of Arts Bucharest (UNARTE) who have exerted a strong influence on many generations of disciples.

The prominent names, often associated with the so-called “Bucharest Art School”, are part of this “another” artistic Eastern Europe which the exhibition aims to reveal. Curated by UNARTE Rector Cătălin Bălescu and accompanied by an overview by art critic Cristian Robert Velescu, the showcase conveys an open invitation to experience a different dimension of Eastern European visual arts and culture.

Exhibitors: Ion Anghel, Cezar Atodiresei, Cătălin Bălescu, Traian Boldea, Marcel Bunea, Petru Lucaci, George Mircea, George Moscal, Alexandru Rădvan, Mihai Sîrbulescu, Andrei Tudoran.
