About The Event

We are excited to partner with the National Gallery of Art and the Romanian Embassy to the U.S. for what has become one of the biggest showcases of contemporary Romanian film in North America, REINVENTING REALISM: NEW CINEMA FROM ROMANIA. In three successive weekends at the beginning of June, the Romanian Film Festival in Washington, D.C., will offer a diversity of fresh cinematic endeavors, programming some of the best and most-awarded recent productions.

The screenings are hosted by the National Gallery of Art and are accompanied by Q&A sessions with major stars of Romanian cinema, both in front of and behind the camera: directors Stere Gulea (“Moromete Family: On the Edge of Time”) and Daniel Sandu (“One Step Behind the Seraphim”), actors Ștefan Iancu (“One Step Behind the Seraphim”), Horațiu Mălăele (“Moromete Family: On the Edge of Time”), Șerban Pavlu (“Charleston”) and Mihaela Sîrbu (“Alice T.”), producer Tudor Giurgiu, film critic Mihai Fulger.

All screenings are free of charge and there is no need to book. Seats are allocated on a first come first served basis.

The events take place at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. – East Building Auditorium.
