About The Event
Her record of Enescu piano works, published by Dabringhaus und Grimm in 2017, has established the Juilliard-trained, Cologne-based Sina Kloke as an undisputed expert in the great master’s chamber compositions. We are proud to welcome the young German virtuoso at the Institute for an Enescu evening both memorable and revealing.
Claude Debussy - "Pour le piano"
George Enescu - Piano Suite No. 2
Franz Schubert - Impromptus Op. 90, No. 2 & 3
One of the most promising performers today, award-winning pianist Sina Kloke is no longer a secret on the international classical music scene. Born in Detmold (Germany), Sina studied with Matti Raekallio (The Juilliard School) and Pavel Gililov (Conservatory of Music Cologne). Acclaimed musicians such as Karl- Heinz Kämmerling, Dimitri Bashkirov, Emanuel Ax and Paul Badura-Skoda have substantially influenced her artistic development. She performs as a soloist and as a chamber music partner at renowned festivals and on stages worldwide. In the fall of 2016 the classical music label Naxos released an album of Sina Kloke performing the Ralph Vaughan Williams “Suite for Piano” as a world premiere recording and the “Fantasia for Piano and Orchestra” with the Chamber Orchestra of New York. Sina’s latest album "Enescu Piano Works" on MDG, featuring Enescu’s "Pièces Impromptues" and the Piano Suite No. 2, was met with worldwide critical acclaim: “An outstanding pianist” (Fono Forum), “A fascinating CD” (Le Monde). The album coincided with an international recital tour which includes works by Enescu, Brahms and Debussy, with performances across Germany, including Hamburg, Cologne and Munich, as well as the Netherlands, Switzerland and the United States. Sina Kloke has been awarded prizes from “The German Music association“, the publisher Schott, the “International Piano and Strings Competition“ New York, the International Piano Competition in Munich, the “International Concerto Competition” Hastings/UK, the “Metropolitan International Piano Competition“, and most recently the soloist prize of the Chamber Orchestra of New York.
“The Enescu Soirees” is a permanent program of the Romanian Cultural Institute designed to showcase, cultivate and promote Romanian music in New York and other major cultural centers of the United States through chamber music concerts of highest quality featuring Romanian, American and international performers and a wide array of styles and genres. The namesake of the series honors Romania’s most prolific and revered musician, George Enescu (1881-1955), a genius composer, violinist, pianist, and conductor. “The Enescu Soirees” aims to present the integrale of Enescu’s chamber works (many of them recently discovered and completed), an endeavor never attempted before, together with other major creations of the Romanian and international classical music repertoire.
