About The Event
The newest exhibition hosted by our "Brâncuși" Gallery builds upon a transatlantic artistic dialog between Romanian Dan Voinea and American Paul Joseph Vogeler, whose bodies of work, characterized by dynamic practices exploring the human perspective from various angles, reveal the inherently subjective and situational nature of the observed reality. The exhibition, entitled "Exposed", investigates the idea of exposure as a moment of crisis, examining one’s vulnerability in front of a viewer, whether an individual or a group.
The exhibition will be on view at RCI New York's "Brâncuşi" Gallery between May 4 – June 23, 2023.
A special event, "Meet the Artist: Paul Joseph Vogeler," is scheduled on May 26, starting at 6:30 pm.
In a world of pervasive scrutiny and constant survey, defending privacy becomes an act of courage. The contemporary individual tries to escape total and permanent exposure and defend their intimacy against intrusion and "surveillance." Nevertheless, privacy is constantly invaded by public opinion and the media, which brutally penetrate the obscurity of one’s life. On the other hand, the tensioned relation between the collective/individual viewer and the subject of their scrutiny is in itself a source of contemplation (and meditation) as evidenced by the works of Dan Voinea and Paul Vogeler, artists who make this theme central to their practice.
The exhibition is made in collaboration with Slag Gallery.
