About The Event

Art Fridays, the aegis of our ongoing visual arts program, debuts “Studio Conversations”, a new online series that offers an intimate, behind-the-scenes access to 10 rising stars of the Romanian artistic scene, uncovering their philosophy and practices, technical approaches, sources of inspiration, and personal stories. Get ready for a close encounter with some amazingly creative individuals, working in a wide range of styles and media, right in the heart of their studios.

“Studio Conversations” features 10 Romanian artists: Ioana Palamar, Cătălin Bădărău, Lea Rasovszky, Ciprian Paleologu, Aurora Kiraly, Obie Platon, Bianca Mann, Ştefan Radu Creţu, Delia Călinescu (Zoiţa), and Roman Tolici.

Don’t miss the premiere on our Facebook, IGTV and YouTube on March 19 at 2 p.m. New York & Toronto time / 11 a.m. Los Angeles & Vancouver time / 9 p.m. Bucharest time. Watch also on our website and other social media accounts anytime later.

The first artist in the series is Ioana Palamar, who is an Assistant Lecturer at the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design’s Painting Department of the “George Enescu” National University of Arts in Iași, where she also finished her BA and MA degrees and took her Ph.D. The start of Ioana’s artistic journey resided into a metaphysical restlessness, which made her pursue her own identity and (self)knowledge by transcending her own physical limits in order to search for some universal “truths”. Her work reveals a poetic meditation on the human spirit, demonstrating the intense emotion of the artist and the absorbing concept behind it.

She is exploring this complex concept by using mixed techniques on various materials which offer her a great freedom of expression, and the work reflects life back to us with simplicity and truth. Inspired by life and creating an intimate artistic universe to compensate for the loneliness of human beings, Ioana Palamar's studio is the place where she is able to find her spiritual balance.
